Antelope Canyon And Horseshoe Bend

Arizona has been on my bucket list for a long time now. Thanks to Instagram, visitation has grown annually from 100,000 in 2010, to 750,000 in 2015, to 2 million in 2017! I was so excited to finally be able to experience this natural beauty. I used to have a burning desire to visit the Grand Canyon but as of recently years I have learned about better breathtaking views in Arizona. I learned of a few and Antelope Canyon became my number one Arizona destination.

I booked a tour with Tours4Fun (which was great, they even fed us and kept us hydrated at no extra charge) and embarked from Las Vegas. Their pick ups are from designated hotels. Check out their website for more information. The ride was about 4.5 hours. Antelope Canyon is located on Navajo land so you must have a tour guide or you will not be able enter. My tour stopped at Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon and Grand Canyon Dam.

Horseshoe Bend was located about 20 minutes a long the way to Antelope Canyon. It is a bend in the Colorado River that resembles a horseshoe, hence the name. On our way to Antelope Canyon, our tour stopped here for us to bask in the beauty. I loved the beautiful earth tone colors and rock formations.

Nature is the most incredible architecture that can not be denied. Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon naturally formed by the water from monsoons and flash floods. This caused the sandstone to erode into unique shapes. There are two canyons, upper and lower. I concluded that I would visit the lower canyon because I believe the depth would give a better contrast on the color. The choice is up to you.
